The workflow
Developed by the Science Department of Temasek Junior College and conceived by Mr Melvyn Lee, MarksCan! offers an alternative to dedicated optical mark readers and proprietary answer sheets. The department reports refining it through several rounds of testing with actual school examinations.
Teachers print customisable sheets on ordinary paper, scan them with a standard school scanner, and upload the PDFs into the app. They can import student details, set an answer key, and review and correct scanned responses before generating student reports, marked sheets, question and class analyses, and CSV results. A new-user guide and printable reports support the workflow.
Data and storage
According to the maker, student lists and scanned sheets are processed locally in the browser, and their contents are not sent to a server. Saved directories, answer keys and results remain in that browser.
